Mediate.com’s 40 Hour Basic Mediation Training led by the esteemed Dr. Clare Fowler is a comprehensive program that equips you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to kickstart your mediation career. The course allows you to hone your mediation techniques in a dynamic and supportive environment by providing you a "Training Buddy" to allow up to 3 role-plays, and then a mentor or instructor can review a final session. You also can submit questions that you may have for the instructor upon completion.  A Certificate of Completion is provided upon completion.

Lets Get Started

Our training is based off the SONAR method, a 5 step mediation process for communicating with partners and moving towards resolution. Collectively it contains 16 videos broken into an average of 2 hours each. This allows you to easily stop and go on your schedule.

Statements

You will learn the in's and outs of the full mediation process, including but not limited to developing your mediation statement, pre-mediation checklists, and creating draft agreements to mediate.

SECTION 1

Openings

Review Opening Statements, learn the basics of opening the communication of the parties, active listening skills, role-plays, confidentially and discuss reframing implicit bias.

SECTION 2

Negotiation

Introduce the art of negotiation, note taking skills in mediation, identify what skills and questions you need as a mediator and additional role-plays

SECTION 3

Agreements

Discussion on the importance of details, setting the stage for agreement, working through the resistance to agreements and closing the agreement. Along with discussing mediator's role and different mediation styles.

SECTION 4

Resolution

We review questions to consider upon resolution, the review process and refine your previous Mediator Statement. This section closes out on marketing strategies, opportunities in the field and how to get going in the field of mediation.

Detailed Time Accounting

Detailed time accounting for the entire training.

Clare Fowler

Dr. Clare Fowler is Executive Vice-President and Managing Editor at Mediate.com, as well as a mediator and trainer. Clare received her Master's of Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law and her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, focused on reducing workplace conflicts, from Pepperdine University School of Education. Clare also coordinated the career development program for The Straus Institute dispute resolution students. In 2023, Clare published Rising Above Office Conflict: The Light-Hearted Guide for the Heavy-Hearted Employee.
